Curiosities about the place:

'Composed by three places of great socio-economical importance, Marquiteira, Ventosa and Pregança, the Parish of Santa Bárbara also integrates a series of other small places, such as Casais de Porto Dinheiro, Barrocas, Fonte Lima, Pia de Mestre, Santa Bárbara, Casal Vale Jameira, Casais do Araújo and Casal Vale da Cruz.

Some of the names of the localities above mentioned, and that today constitute the parish, are already mentioned in documents of the XVI century, fact that proves the antiquity of its settlement.

According to the Register of the Population of the Kingdom, of 1527, or simply numbering of D. João III, the parish of Santa Bárbara would have near 90 inhabitants: fifteen in Pregança, eighteen in Ventosa and Fonte Lima, twenty-four in Marquiteira, twelve in Alqueidão, twelve in Atalaia, and only six in Porto Dinheiro. This was the least populated place of the actual parish.

The name of the parish shows the strong feeling of religiosity of the population that decided to consecrate their land to the saint. It is a very old cult, fact that is related to the antiquity of this parish institution.

It was in this parish that took place the famous battle of Vimeiro, during the third French Invasion of Portugal. The fight took place between Junot's troops and Wellesley's, in a vast land that included the slopes of Ventosa and Casais de Fonte de Lima and that went until the Alcabrichel river, in Vimeiro.
