Located in the parish of Campo, three kilometres from the municipal seat of Viseu, Santa Maria Madalena do Campo is also known as Campo da Madalena. It covers an area of 15.48 km2 and has the neighbouring parishes of Lordosa, Bodiosa, Abraveses, Orgens and Vil de Soito.

Flooded by the Couce River, the parish was originally settled in a castro on Monte de Santa Luzia, as the location was well-suited for defence. There are also two dolmens and two burial mounds in the parish area, which proves that the occupation of this land dates back to ancient times.

The chapel of Santa Luzia is located at an altitude of 633 metres, and from here you can see the Abraveses plain, the old Sanatório Novo da Misericórdia, the airfield (named after Sergeant Lobato who died there in 1935) and the city of Viseu. In the background, you can still see the peaks of the Serra da Estrela and Serra do Caramulo.

In the village of Moselos there is a beautiful complex of mills that are still in operation. It was here that a few years ago a milestone appeared, indicating that a Roman road that led to São Pedro do Sul had passed through here and met with the road that came from Castro Daire and Lamego to continue on to Porto.
